SoftBank completed on October 1 the payment of the final $10 billion tranche as part of its $30 billion follow-on commitment to OpenAI. This brings the Japanese group’s total investment in the ChatGPT maker to $64.6 billion, representing an approximately 13% stake. This final tranche completes a $30 billion follow-on commitment structured in three installments. Nvidia, which contributed $30 billion during OpenAI’s record February 2026 funding round, did not add a new $10 billion tranche in October despite earlier speculation.
