The system uses the Gale-Shapley algorithm, a mathematical stable matching method that earned Lloyd Shapley and Alvin Roth the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2012. The initiative comes as Singapore’s resident total fertility rate fell to 0.87 births per woman in 2025, down from 0.97 in 2024. The median age at first marriage reached 31.1 for grooms and 29.6 for brides. Applications for the pilot program close on October 5.
