Hester Peirce, the SEC commissioner nicknamed ‘Crypto Mom’ for her advocacy of clearer crypto regulation, will depart the agency on October 2 after nearly nine years in office. She will join Regent University School of Law in November as an associate professor teaching securities regulation and digital assets. Her departure leaves the SEC with only two of its five seats filled, the minimum required for a quorum, which could lead to deadlocks on any disputed vote. She led the SEC’s Crypto Task Force and proposed safe harbor periods for token projects. She will continue shaping crypto regulation thinking through academia.
