The European Commission announced Friday it is prepared to defend the 120 million euro fine imposed on platform X for breaches of EU digital regulations. The U.S. Justice Department filed Thursday an application supporting X’s bid to have the case annulled at the European Union’s General Court. This marks the second time in three months that the Justice Department has intervened to defend a company owned by Elon Musk. The fine, issued late last year following a two-year investigation, was the first penalty under the EU’s Digital Services Act, with regulators finding that X’s blue checkmarks involved deceptive design practices that could expose users to scams and manipulation.
