Bitcoin experienced another blockchain reorganization on Sept. 11 at block height 966,500. Two mining pools, SpiderPool and AntPool, simultaneously produced competing blocks built on the same parent block. Galaxy Research’s node initially treated SpiderPool’s block as the blockchain tip, but AntPool then built block 966,501 on top of its own version, causing the network to abandon SpiderPool’s block. This reorganization was not related to any consensus bug or attack: it resulted from the natural delay in block propagation across the Bitcoin network. SpiderPool’s orphaned block contained a reward of approximately 3.1389 BTC that became unusable, compared to 3.1411 BTC for AntPool’s winning block. This marks the third reorganization in less than a month, following those of Aug. 16 at block 962,722 and Aug. 24 at block 963,853.
