Tesla eyes European freight market with long-delayed Semi truck

Tesla plans to launch its Semi electric truck in Europe, unveiling European specifications and launch details at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, Germany, next week. Originally unveiled in 2017 with initial production targeted for 2019, the Semi has faced multiple delays due to battery-cell supplies being prioritized for passenger vehicles. Tesla began limited U.S. deliveries in late 2022, but its latest shareholder update only forecasts production beginning in 2026. The European version offers a range of up to 550 km at a gross combination weight of 40 tons and can recover roughly 60% of its range in 30 minutes using Tesla’s Megacharger network.
