The Zcash Foundation has released Zebra 7.0.0-rc.0, the first release candidate for NU7, the next Zcash network upgrade. Testnet activation is scheduled at block 4,465,026 around October 6, 2026, while the mainnet activation height will be set on October 20, 2026. This upgrade will cut ZEC block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, reducing the average wait for a first transaction confirmation. NU7 will also introduce a network sustainability mechanism that withdraws 60% of transaction fees from circulation, with miners retaining the remaining 40%, along with per-block limits designed to protect wallets from spam attacks.
