A drone struck the external radiation control laboratory at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant on May 3, damaging meteorological monitoring equipment that is now non-operational. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed the damage after visiting the site on May 4 and 5. No injuries were reported and radiation levels remain normal. The plant, Europe’s largest nuclear facility with six reactors all shut down since 2022, has been under Russian occupation since March of that year. The IAEA is calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint near nuclear facilities.
