Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) is evaluating the construction of a second chip fabrication plant in Singapore, months after inaugurating its first facility in the Tampines district. The estimated investment for the first plant ranges from US$6.7 to US$7.8 billion, with a target production of 44,000 wafers per month by 2029. The initial capacity of this first facility was fully booked before production even begins, scheduled for Q1 2027, illustrating the strong demand for these specialized chips. The joint venture VSMC, owned 60% by VIS and 40% by NXP, focuses on 40nm to 130nm process nodes used in physical AI applications for the automotive and industrial sectors.
