Job openings in the United States fell to 7.271 million in July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ JOLTS report, a figure below economists’ expectations of roughly 7.313 million. The job openings rate remained steady at 4.4%, unchanged from June, while total hires and separations both came in at 5.1 million. Since the post-pandemic peak of 12.3 million in March 2022, the US labor market has shed approximately 5 million job openings, with the current figure now closer to pre-pandemic norms of 6 to 7 million.
