Apple accuses former engineer Chang Liu of destroying files after learning about an internal investigation in a lawsuit against OpenAI filed in the Northern District of California. The case involves over 400 former Apple employees who joined OpenAI, with many reportedly working on the AI lab’s secret consumer hardware project. Apple has handed Liu’s old work laptop to forensic examiners and alleges he recruited colleague Yu-Ting Peng to erase evidence in June. OpenAI filed a motion to dismiss on August 6, arguing that Apple lost the talent war and that its own access controls created the exposure. Apple stock (AAPL) closed at $316.85 on Monday, down 0.89%, but still holds a 16.38% year-to-date gain.
