Tether has stated it had « limited » exposure to EQIBank, the bank accused by the US Department of Justice of directing a Montana payments company to allegedly transfer hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of Tether and Bitfinex. US prosecutors froze approximately $84 million in Capstone’s accounts as part of a civil forfeiture complaint. Tether confirmed it was a customer of EQIBank but said the amounts deposited represented only 0.034% of its total assets. The USDT stablecoin issuer, with a market capitalization of approximately $184 billion, said it had « no knowledge » of the alleged conduct.
