Tether has expanded its Wallet Development Kit with a command-line interface and a Model Context Protocol server, allowing AI agents to interact with the same local wallet daemon used by human operators. The tooling enables agents to inspect balances, prepare transactions and manage assets without relying on a custodial service, while private keys remain in a self-custodial setup. This positions Tether for agentic payments: autonomous software capable of purchasing services, moving funds or interacting with financial protocols. However, the technology raises significant security concerns, as AI systems with the ability to move money require much stricter controls than text-generating systems. The software is currently in beta and Tether recommends testing with limited funds.
