Outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, nicknamed « Crypto Mom » for her crypto-friendly stance, advocated at the SIFMA Digital Assets Conference in New York for reduced personal data collection in the financial system. She criticized know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering rules, arguing that accumulating data on law-abiding citizens makes it harder to detect criminals. Peirce highlighted cryptographic tools such as zero-knowledge proofs and attribute-based credentials that can verify facts without revealing underlying personal information. She will leave the SEC in November after leading the Crypto Task Force in 2025.
