NEAR Intents, a cross-chain protocol built on the NEAR Protocol, suffered an exploit on October 1, 2026. Approximately $3.8 million, mostly in USDT, was drained from a treasury contract on BNB Chain due to a bug in the protocol’s Omni deposit-and-withdrawal infrastructure. The team detected the exploit, halted services, and patched the flaw within about an hour. Stolen funds were traced to KuCoin and converted to Bitcoin, with NEAR Intents working alongside law enforcement and blockchain analytics firms. The protocol’s general manager set a 48-hour deadline for the attacker to return the funds while pledging full compensation to affected users. The NEAR token dropped between 6% and 10% following the exploit announcement.
