Charles Lamanna, currently leading Office and Teams at Microsoft, is internally viewed as a potential successor to Satya Nadella as CEO. Since March 2026, he has held the role of Executive Vice President of Copilot, Agents, Platform, overseeing the AI assistant Microsoft aims to weave into virtually all its products. His responsibilities expanded after Ryan Roslansky’s departure in October 2026, which resulted in Sumit Chauhan and Lan Ye reporting directly to him. Lamanna has brought Anthropic’s models alongside OpenAI’s technology into Copilot, committing Microsoft to paying over $2 billion annually to the provider. He joined Microsoft in 2013 through the acquisition of his startup MetricsHub, rising through the ranks via roles in Azure, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365.
