Investors brace for lower Anthropic valuation, calling $1.5 trillion a ‘stretch’

Some investors have lowered their expectations for Anthropic’s valuation ahead of its IPO, which was recently being considered at $2 trillion. According to several stakeholders, a $1.5 trillion valuation is also difficult to defend, with one investor now considering a range of $1 trillion to $1.25 trillion more likely. The revision comes after a sharp tech selloff on Wall Street, with the Nasdaq losing more than 5% on Thursday in its worst session in 19 months. Investors fear that heavy spending by artificial intelligence companies and a slowdown in data center construction will weigh on the market. Anthropic, valued privately at $965 billion in May, plans to begin its roadshow next week and is expected to make its Nasdaq debut in a matter of weeks.
