IMF clears the air on El Salvador’s growing Bitcoin reserves

The IMF confirmed that El Salvador’s Bitcoin holdings grew through private donations and not public-sector purchases. The country, operating under a $1.4 billion financing programme with the IMF, saw its BTC balance reach 7,764.37 BTC at the time of writing. The balance jumped by 1,000 BTC in November and the country continues to receive one BTC per day. The IMF did not disclose the identity of the donors or the individual amounts of their contributions. El Salvador also made Bitcoin acceptance voluntary for private businesses and reduced the role of its Chivo crypto wallet by transferring most operations to a private operator.
