Researchers led by Clara Shikheman, head of Bitcoin-focused research firm Alloc Init, have developed a method to enable Zcash-style private Bitcoin transfers without modifying the network’s consensus layer. This approach leverages Tornado Cash mixer logic and uses zero-knowledge proofs to shield the sender, receiver, and amount of transactions. Starknet founder Eli Ben-Sasson praised the initiative, viewing it as the realization of the original Zcash vision applied to Bitcoin. However, researcher Robin Linus warned that the underlying cryptography remains highly experimental with unestablished security assumptions and would not be quantum-secure.
