Ethereum is targeting a quantum-resistant Layer 1 by December 2029, with 60 researchers and engineers from nine protocol teams having evaluated 62 EIPs proposed for Hegotá. The Ethereum Foundation stated that the December 2029 deadline will be non-negotiable until January 2027, when progress in quantum computing will be reassessed with external experts. Two proposals, FOCIL and Frame Transactions, received the top S grade, meaning they must ship. Achieving full quantum resistance would require an average fork cadence of 7.2 months, although a minimum viable milestone could be reached with a 12-month cadence.
