Zcash engineers are implementing Private Information Retrieval (PIR) to secure transparent addresses against quantum computing threats. This technology allows a wallet to monitor its addresses without revealing which ones it is querying to the server. Confirmed activity is split into block ranges, processed locally by the wallet using filters of approximately 15 KB for 10,000 scripts. The PIR component arrives this week in Vizor, with fully post-quantum transparent pools announced for January. These protections do not make transparent transactions private on the blockchain, but they limit metadata leakage during server queries.
