Crypto platforms lost $1.26 billion in the third quarter of 2026, a 53.9% increase from the $819.4 million lost in spring. Bitget ($387.5 million) and Liquid Network ($319 million) alone accounted for more than half of the quarter’s losses. September remained the worst month of the year with $768.5 million stolen across 99 incidents. The sector’s insurance capacity fell by 20% year-over-year to $130.2 million by late August, covering less than 5% of the $2.68 billion stolen since January.
