Traders betting against cryptocurrencies suffered heavy losses this weekend as $113 million in short positions were forcibly closed over a 24-hour period ending October 5, 2026, out of a total of approximately $138 million in liquidations, according to Coinglass data. Bitcoin accounted for nearly half of all short liquidations with $57.07 million, followed by Ethereum with $24.04 million. In total, 42,225 traders were affected by these forced position closures across the tracked derivatives venues. The largest single liquidation was a $5.63 million ETHUSDT short on Binance. This event mirrors a similar episode in July 2026 that also produced $113 million in short liquidations, both triggered by upward price moves catching bears off guard.
