Chris Guida rebases proof-of-work hard fork code for Bitcoin Knots as miner contingency plan

Developer Chris Guida has rebased Luke Dashjr’s original 2017 proof-of-work hard fork code onto the current version of Bitcoin Knots. This work, completed in early August 2026, serves as a contingency plan in case of miner resistance to the BIP-110 proposal, which aims to temporarily restrict non-financial data in Bitcoin transactions for one year. BIP-110 requires miner signaling above 55% across a window of 2,016 blocks, corresponding to roughly two weeks, to activate. Early reports from August 2026 indicate weak miner signaling, which justifies preparing this backup plan. A proof-of-work algorithm change would render existing mining hardware incompatible with the new chain, effectively stripping miners of their investment in specialized equipment.
