A British man named Chris has recovered 61 bitcoins stranded since 2014 on the defunct exchange Intersango, turning an initial investment of 1,500 pounds into over 3.3 million pounds. Liverpool-based law firm CEL Solicitors resolved the case in four months after identifying the funds through court proceedings in California involving the exchange’s cofounders. The firm also claims to have located a wallet containing over 5,500 additional bitcoins belonging to former Intersango clients, worth over 300 million pounds at current prices. This case differs from typical lost bitcoin stories because the funds never left the blockchain: only the custodian had changed, making it a legal issue rather than a mathematical one.
