Venture capital firm a16z Crypto and the DeFi Education Fund asked the SEC on September 22nd for regulatory relief for decentralized exchanges (DEXs), related applications, and their developers. They also proposed a different approval pathway for crypto trading platforms functioning as traditional intermediaries. The push follows the SEC’s 2024 enforcement action against Uniswap. However, SIFMA, representing traditional finance players including Citadel Securities, has already criticized the SEC’s Innovation Exemption proposal and may oppose the DEX exemption request.
