Multinational corporations are receiving nearly $200 billion in tariff refunds from the U.S. government, boosting earnings for some companies. Consumer groups point out that these same companies had claimed tariffs on China and other Asian countries would force them to raise prices. Lawsuits are now being filed against companies that kept those price increases while receiving rebates. Nike CFO Matthew Friend had stated in June during an earnings call that the new tariff regime would lead to surgical price increases in the United States.
