The NU7 network upgrade, scheduled for around November 5 or 6, 2026, at block height 3,543,405, will disable version 4 transactions, the only way to spend funds from Sprout, Zcash’s first privacy pool launched in 2016. Approximately 12,226 ZEC, worth nearly $16 million at the recent $1,300 to $1,320 price, will remain stranded if holders do not migrate them before activation. The funds will not be burned or confiscated, but they will become technically unspendable and are likely to remain frozen indefinitely because no recovery mechanism exists. The pool’s balance has fallen from roughly 22,300 ZEC in mid-October to about 12,226 ZEC, while the newer Sapling, Orchard and Ironwood pools will continue operating normally.
