Mélanie Garcia was running Occitanie Sports Loisirs, a company based in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville, when an unknown man filed a fake general meeting minutes with the registry in early August. The document, which imitated her signature, recorded the transfer of her shares to the impersonator and allowed him to control the company’s bank account, mail and domain name. Nearly two months later, the man emailed and called Garcia, mentioned her children and disclosed her address while demanding 17,000 euros in cryptocurrency. Because transactions are recorded on the blockchain, investigators can trace the flows to exchange platforms. The commercial court is expected to consider an urgent procedure to suspend the effects of the fraudulent transfer no earlier than 20 November, while the suspect remains at large.
