BitGo is widening its remit with Global Markets, an institutional trading, financing and derivatives business launched on November 4, 2026. The unit is built on the team brought in through the acquisition of NYDIG’s institutional and trading business, completed on August 27, 2026. The thesis is straightforward: BitGo no longer wants to be only an infrastructure provider and now targets the full lifecycle of a digital asset trade.
๐ Key takeaways
- Global Markets brings liquidity, execution, financing, derivatives and settlement under one brand.
- The Global Liquidity Layer gives clients access to spot and large off-exchange block trades.
- Roughly 30 former NYDIG staff strengthen derivatives, collateral management and structured products.
- The BTGO stock is down 63% since its January 2026 IPO, at $5.32 at the time of Yahoo Finance’s reading.
A full-service market business built on existing infrastructure
According to the release distributed by Business Wire from New York, Global Markets is positioned as a full-service institutional market offering. It combines global liquidity, trade execution, financing and settlement, and now adds derivatives and collateral management. BitGo says the launch broadens its role, which had mainly been that of an infrastructure provider supporting institutional digital asset activity.
The foundation is not new. BitGo Prime, an institutional trading offering available since 2020, is now part of Global Markets. The novelty is the Global Liquidity Layer, which is meant to give clients access to spot transactions and large over-the-counter (OTC) trades. The company says this liquidity is sourced from trading venues, market makers and other counterparties.

Crypto-backed financing and collateral management
Institutional clients will be able to borrow against their digital assets to fund trading positions. BitGo will keep collateral in qualified custody, monitor margin levels and handle margin calls or, where necessary, liquidations. These mechanisms mirror routine practices in traditional markets, applied to digital asset custody.
Global Markets also offers options, swaps and bespoke structured products to eligible counterparties. According to the company, these instruments are used to hedge exposure, express a market view or manage portfolio risk. The offering also covers investment strategy management, private funds and research. Go Network supports the unit’s liquidation and settlement activities.
| Component | Function | Source of expertise |
|---|---|---|
| Global Liquidity Layer | Spot and OTC access | Trading venues, market makers |
| Prime Services | Institutional trading | Existing business since 2020 |
| Structured financing | Loans against digital assets | Team from NYDIG |
| Derivatives | Options, swaps, bespoke products | Team from NYDIG |
| Settlement | Liquidation and settlement | Go Network |
A NYDIG-derived team and a leadership question
The acquisition of NYDIG’s institutional and trading business, dated August 27, 2026 by The Block and KuCoin, brought in about 30 employees. They bring experience in derivatives, financing, collateral management and structured products. BitGo argues the team adds the structuring and risk-management discipline of traditional markets to digital assets. The purchase price is not disclosed in the available sources.
Pete Janney, a former NYDIG executive, has been named head of Global Markets and brings extensive experience in trading and capital markets. The sources differ on his path, however. BitGo’s release describes him as coming from NYDIG, while The Block and KuCoin report that he first joined BitGo as director of financial infrastructure before leading the new division. These accounts are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they should be kept distinct.
“BitGo has built a strong foundation in custody, liquidity, trading, financing and settlement. Global Markets brings these capabilities together with deeper capital markets expertise, which allows us to support more complex institutional strategies and meet a broader set of financial needs for our clients. Pete understands how institutions transact and manage risk, and I am excited to see him lead Global Markets.”
Mike Belshe, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, BitGo
Janney framed the offer around client objectives: “Clients who hold digital assets need sophisticated solutions that go beyond buying and holding,” he said in the release. Dedicated coverage teams will work with clients on their trading, financing and risk management needs.
Market context and points of caution
On the market side, The Block reported that BTGO shares rose 3.4% in Wednesday premarket trading, after a 3.7% gain on Tuesday, according to TradingView. Yahoo Finance puts this move in a longer trajectory: the stock has fallen 63% since its January 2026 IPO and traded at $5.32 at the time of its reading. The two data points cover different horizons and do not contradict each other. The sources do not explicitly attribute the premarket move to the Global Markets launch.
| Indicator | Figure | Date or period |
|---|---|---|
| Global Markets launch | Official announcement | November 4, 2026 |
| NYDIG business acquisition | Amount not disclosed | August 27, 2026 |
| Staff acquired | About 30 employees | August 2026 |
| BTGO share price | $5.32 | Yahoo Finance reading |
| Change since IPO | -63% | Since January 2026 |
| Premarket change | +3.4% | Wednesday, per The Block |
The release contains forward-looking statements subject to several risks: high volatility in digital assets, technical difficulties in integration or changes to underlying networks, heightened sector and operational scrutiny, theft, loss or destruction of private keys, and errors in executing client transactions or managing trading activities. BitGo refers investors to its annual report on Form 10-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 27, 2026, as well as its subsequent Forms 10-Q and 8-K. The company does not undertake to update these statements except as required by law.
For context, BitGo has been active since 2013 and says it serves thousands of institutions. It operates BitGo Bank & Trust, National Association, presented as the first federally chartered digital asset fiduciary bank owned by a publicly traded company.
Outlook and scenarios
In a constructive scenario, Global Markets could deepen relationships with institutional clients by offering custody, trading, financing and settlement on a single platform. Deeper off-exchange liquidity and recurring financing revenue would then become differentiators against other sector players. Execution will depend on the team’s ability to integrate the NYDIG-derived businesses without weakening risk controls.
In a less favourable scenario, digital asset volatility could erode the value of collateral and multiply margin calls or liquidations. The 63% decline since the IPO shows how sensitive the stock is to expectations. Investors will therefore watch quarterly results, traded volumes and commercial traction at Global Markets before judging how much the business model has really changed.
