US government moves $770M of seized Bitcoin to Coinbase Prime

The US government transferred 9,261 Bitcoin worth $770 million to Coinbase Prime. Half of these funds came from the Bitfinex hackers, while another portion was linked to seizures from Binance. Approximately 2,456 BTC came from previously unknown holders and could represent new federal law enforcement seizures. Coinbase Prime has been used by the US Marshals Service as the custody provider for seized assets since 2024. This transfer conflicts with President Donald Trump’s March 2025 executive order, which specifies that seized Bitcoin should become part of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and not be sold.
