Citadel expands quantitative investing operation, seeks AI talent from Silicon Valley labs

Citadel, Ken Griffin’s hedge fund, is scaling up its quantitative investing unit and aggressively recruiting AI researchers from Silicon Valley labs. The fund accepted over 350 interns in June 2026 out of 115,900 applicants, representing a 0.36% acceptance rate. Compensation for these specialized roles ranges from $300,000 to $450,000. The Global Quantitative Strategies group, led by Navneet Arora since 2019, will launch an initiative in June 2026 to pay external hedge fund managers for their trading signals. This offensive puts Citadel in direct competition with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and Meta’s FAIR lab. The firm manages roughly $67 billion in assets.
