Blink Wallet, a Bitcoin Lightning Network payments app, suspended all services on September 19 after discovering unauthorized access to a limited number of its custodial accounts. The company confirmed deploying a patch to address the vulnerability but has not disclosed the amount stolen or the number of accounts compromised. Non-custodial wallets, where users manage their own private keys, were not affected by the breach. Blink was already winding down custodial services in select regions due to regulatory pressure, and the introduction of the Spark protocol for non-custodial wallets now appears particularly strategic. An investigation is underway to determine the exact breach vector.
