Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline shutdown after drone attacks rattles global oil markets

Share

Saudi Arabia shut down its East-West pipeline, the Petroline, on September 11, 2026, after drone attacks targeted pumping stations along the route. The 1,200-kilometer pipeline carries 4 to 5 million barrels per day from the Abqaiq oil fields to the Yanbu Red Sea terminal, representing 4 to 5 percent of global oil supply. Brent crude surged past $100 per barrel and touched $110 before stabilizing. Yanbu facilities hold 15 million barrels in storage, enough to sustain exports for 5 to 7 days. Aramco expects partial restoration within days and full operational recovery in 5 to 8 weeks depending on damage severity.
