Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller confirmed using artificial intelligence to write his Wall Street Journal op-ed attacking Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s bond-buyback strategy. The controversial program doubles long-dated Treasury bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation, running from September 9 through November 4, 2026. Druckenmiller, who mentored Bessent at Soros Fund Management, defended the use of AI by comparing it to using a calculator, insisting the core arguments were entirely his own. The revelation came after an AI-detection tool flagged significant portions of the piece as machine-generated. US national debt has now surpassed $40 trillion with the federal deficit at roughly 6% of GDP, a historically unusual level during positive economic growth that Druckenmiller argues is structurally unsustainable.
