US DOJ indicts 10 for using bots to fake liquidity in crypto markets

The US Department of Justice indicted on March 30, 2026, ten foreign nationals linked to four market-making firms (Gotbit, Vortex, Antier, and Contrarian) for crypto market manipulation schemes. These individuals are accused of using trading bots to generate fake volume and coordinated wash trades to create the illusion of real demand and lure investors into buying. The beneficiaries then sold their holdings into this manufactured liquidity. Authorities seized over $1 million in digital assets and disabled the trading bots as part of the operation named « Operation Token Mirrors ».
