The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is planning to launch East Africa’s first artificial intelligence-focused exchange-traded fund. This initiative falls within the NSE’s 2025-2029 strategic framework targeting 50 diverse funds. The NSE currently has only two ETFs listed in its entire history: the Barclays NewGold ETF launched in 2017 and the Satrix MSCI World Feeder ETF listed last year. In the first seven months of 2026, investor wealth on the NSE grew by over KSh 1 trillion, pushing total market capitalization close to KSh 4 trillion. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed the IVYA ETF in March 2026, giving South African investors access to global AI companies. The NSE has not yet officially announced this product or its timeline.
