Outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, nicknamed « Crypto Mom », expressed optimism about the passage of the Clarity Act, the U.S. cryptocurrency market structure bill. She stated that this legislation would draw clear lines regarding authority over the crypto spot market and facilitate the work of industry players, investors, and regulators. The bill has been stalled since 2026, partly due to banking lobby concerns over stablecoin yield and criticism from Democrats who believe the text needs revision. An updated version of the Clarity Act, introduced in July 2026, now bans government officials and their families from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. Since President Donald Trump took office in 2025, the SEC has taken a significantly more favorable approach to cryptocurrencies and announced the creation of a specialized task force to oversee the sector.
