Zcash activated the NU7 upgrade on the main network at block 3,543,405, reducing the target interval between blocks from 75 to 25 seconds. To prevent a mechanical tripling of new coin issuance, the scheduled reward per block and the remaining issuance and halving schedules were adjusted to keep the overall monetary issuance broadly aligned with the previous framework. NU7 also creates a network sustainability mechanism that directs 60% of transaction fees into a public reserve for future miner rewards, while miners can immediately access the remaining 40%. Node operators must use NU7-compatible software to remain aligned with the consensus chain, and support for version-four transactions previously associated with the Sprout pool has been retired. The 25-second interval is a statistical expectation rather than a guarantee of instant confirmations, as blocks arrive irregularly and platforms apply their own confirmation policies.
