Zcash has activated the Ironwood upgrade, replacing the Orchard shielded pool with a new private pool. The old pool held approximately 3.7 million ZEC worth $1.7 billion, and the upgrade prevents any potentially counterfeit coins from leaving the retired pool. The vulnerability was discovered in May by security researcher Taylor Hornby and triggered a 38% price drop before a $2.5 billion market value rebound following the fix announcement. ZEC now trades around $464 with a market capitalization of approximately $8 billion. The upgrade also introduces quantum-resistant transaction records and formally verified cryptography, though critics highlight a temporary privacy risk during fund migration.
