Why XRP Ledger Slowed Down: Ripple Ex-CTO Schwartz Details Core Flaws

Share

The XRP Ledger experienced an unusual slowdown in closing its ledgers, prompting engineers to investigate the anomaly. David Schwartz, Ripple’s former chief technology officer and a co-creator of the network, says two scenarios could theoretically paralyze the blockchain entirely: a massive, simultaneous infrastructure failure or an error in the consensus mechanism. He believes the slowdown shows that technological safety margins have decreased, potentially because of a targeted attack or a hidden bug. The practical issue was mainly monitoring: his overloaded node could no longer transmit diagnostic logs, while some records were being sent to an outdated XRP Ledger Foundation test server. Schwartz rejected claims that the network was vulnerable to a single point of failure because it is decentralized, and said developers are manually analyzing the surviving logs to correct the defect without threatening network operation.
