Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin published a post on Saturday outlining his vision for the network’s evolution over the next decade. He describes Ethereum no longer as a simple blockchain but as a cryptographic world computer, a hybrid combining Satoshi Nakamoto’s ideas with 50 years of academic cryptography. Key technical changes include finality dropping from 200 seconds to 8-32 seconds, slot times from 12 to 2 seconds, and far lower hardware requirements for running a node. The network will adopt PeerDAS, SNARKs, optimized proof of stake, and FOCIL for censorship resistance. The Ethereum Foundation roadmap plans seven forks through 2029.
