Visa and Mastercard have become founding partners of Open Standard, the group behind OUSD (Open USD), a dollar-pegged stablecoin that officially launched on September 30, 2026. The five founders, which also include Coinbase, Shopify and Stripe, have committed over $1 billion to support the token’s liquidity. OUSD distinguishes itself through an inverted economic model: partners share the interest generated by reserves, while Open Standard takes a small management fee. Stripe has already made OUSD its default stablecoin for business transactions, and the partner network has grown from 140 to over 200 companies, including financial giants such as BlackRock and UBS.
