UAE ‘spy sheikh’ backs 49% stake in Trump family’s crypto bank venture, WSJ reports

The powerful UAE national security advisor known as the « spy sheikh, » Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan, supports the largest stake in the holding company for the Trump family’s planned crypto bank. Sheikh Tahnoon and his co-investors hold a 49% stake in WLTC Holdings through StringZ Holding RSC, while a Trump family-affiliated entity owns an additional 38%. Tahnoon and other investors previously invested $500 million in World Liberty Financial in January 2025, with $263 million directed to Trump family entities. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted World Liberty preliminary conditional approval this month to establish a federally chartered national trust bank. The arrangement has drawn scrutiny due to Tahnoon’s connection to a foreign government and the Trump administration’s negotiations with the UAE over access to advanced U.S. artificial intelligence chips.
