Donald Trump said he would review the theft of an estimated $6.3 billion in digital assets from Binance on October 29, 2026. The attack allegedly lasted about 20 minutes, targeted the exchange’s hot wallets across multiple blockchains and was attributed to the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor, which is linked to Lazarus. Binance halted withdrawals, deployed its SAFU emergency fund and corporate treasury to cover the losses and targeted a restart within 45 hours. Around $3 billion in assets, primarily stablecoins, were frozen by issuers and partners, while cryptocurrency prices fell after the announcement. The theft is more than four times the $1.5 billion lost in the 2025 Bybit hack and raises national security concerns.
