The Trump administration announced Thursday the suspension of Microsoft and several other companies from a program allowing foreign workers to apply for green cards, after Vice President JD Vance accused these firms of replacing American workers with foreign indentured servants. Microsoft, the fifth-largest U.S. employer using H-1B visas, laid off 6,000 American workers last year while obtaining 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards. Other companies targeted by this measure include Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini. The H-1B visa program, which allows technology companies to recruit highly skilled workers, is under increasing scrutiny from the administration, which views it as a threat to American jobs.
