THORChain is facing mounting criticism after stolen funds from the Bitget hack were reportedly routed through its cross-chain infrastructure. Between September 24 and 26, swap volume surged to $1.72 billion from $610 million in August, while fees jumped to $479,033.13. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen formally requested THORChain to refuse service to the attacker addresses, stating that decentralization is a design principle, not a shield for facilitating known stolen funds. THORChain defended its position by comparing itself to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Chain, arguing that a permissionless protocol should not censor transactions. Despite the controversy, THORChain’s native token RUNE rose 15.8% in 24 hours, trading at $0.7908 at press time.
