Tencent has begun gray testing its Hy4 open-source Mixture-of-Experts model in the Yuanbao app, positioning it as an expert-level offering. The Hy4 represents a significant leap from the previous Hy3 model, which featured 295 billion total parameters with 21 billion active parameters and a 256K context window. The Hy3 model, released under the Apache 2.0 license in April 2026, saw usage increase 68-fold after its formal release and now powers Tencent products including the Yuanbao AI assistant, CodeBuddy, and WorkBuddy. The Hy series is led by Tencent’s chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu. Tencent has adopted a dual strategy of developing proprietary models like the Hy series while simultaneously leveraging top open-source alternatives, including models from DeepSeek.
