Stellar’s forthcoming Bell protocol upgrade is intended to prepare smart accounts for large-scale business use, begin work on quantum-safe signatures and speed up ledgers. Activation votes are scheduled for November 3 and 23, 2026, on the test network and main network, respectively, while version 30 changes the ledger header format and requires updated software development kits. Stellar also plans to allow every account to add a quantum-safe signer by the end of 2027 without changing its address or history, with enterprise wallets expected to adopt quantum-safe signing through Soroban contract accounts in 2026. At the time of publication, XLM had risen 4.80% over 24 hours to $0.183 as the broader cryptocurrency market rebounded. The project is designed to protect consensus against forged validator signatures and prevent sufficiently powerful quantum computers from taking control of accounts, including dormant accounts.
