Shinhan Card has reached an agreement with two entities of Japan’s SBI Group to test, in Tokyo, card-linked payments made with yen-denominated stablecoins. The pilot agreement, signed on October 20, 2026, covers spending by Japanese tourists in South Korea, wallet-to-wallet transfers and faster cross-border trade settlement between the two countries. The system will use blockchain technology supplied by SBI XDC Network APAC and will assess anti-money laundering controls and fraud detection systems. Commercial deployment will depend on meeting regulatory requirements in Japan and South Korea, which recorded more than 10 million visitor movements during the first eight months of 2026.
